FAQ
Before you incorporate
Do I need to incorporate?
Not always. If your profit is close to what you spend personally, a sole proprietorship may be cheaper to run. Incorporation makes sense when you retain profit, want liability separation, or clients and lenders expect it. We model both before you decide.
How long does incorporation take?
An Ontario corporation is typically registered within one to two business days once we have your details. CRA accounts follow shortly after.
Ontario or federal incorporation?
Federal gives Canada-wide name protection but requires 25% Canadian-resident directors and extra provincial registration. Ontario is simpler and has no director residency requirement. We recommend based on where you will actually operate.
Named or numbered corporation?
A numbered corporation is faster and cheaper; a named corporation requires a NUANS search. If you are building a brand, register the name.
Do I need to register for GST/HST right away?
Registration is generally required once taxable revenue exceeds $30,000 over four consecutive quarters. Registering earlier lets you claim input tax credits — we review whether it helps you.
What CRA accounts will I need?
A Business Number is the base. Add GST/HST (RT) if you sell taxable goods or services, payroll (RP) if you hire, and import/export (RM) if you move goods across the border.
Can you do the bookkeeping after registration?
Yes — that is the point. Registration is step one; we set up your accounting system, compliance calendar and monthly bookkeeping so nothing is scrambled at year-end.
Do you provide legal advice?
No. We handle registration filings and accounting. Shareholder agreements and legal opinions should come from your lawyer.
