The problem

You find out whether a job made money months after it closed.

Your P&L says the year was fine. It doesn't say which jobs carried it and which ones quietly lost money. We build job-level reporting so you can price, bid and bill with real numbers.

What we cover

  • • Job costing and cost codes
  • • Project-level P&L
  • • Progress billing
  • • Holdbacks and releases
  • • Work in progress (WIP) schedules
  • • Subcontractor management and T5018
  • • Payroll for field and office staff
  • • WSIB accounting support
  • • HST on construction contracts
  • • Equipment and vehicle accounting
  • • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • • Cash flow forecasting across projects
  • • Lender and bonding reporting
  • • Development accounting

Problems we solve

Where the money is usually leaking

Bids are based on gut feel

We report actual labour, material, sub and equipment cost per job so your next bid uses your real cost structure, not last year's assumption.

Holdbacks and WIP distort your numbers

We track holdback receivable and payable and maintain a WIP schedule so revenue lands in the right period — and your lender sees a clean picture.

Sub vs employee exposure

We review how you pay your crews, handle T5018 reporting, and flag classification risk before CRA does.

FAQ

Construction & Trades: your questions

How much will this cost?

Monthly accounting starts from $299/month and is priced on transaction volume, payroll, entities and complexity. Use the instant pricing calculator for an indicative range, then we confirm an exact fixed price after a short review.

Can you set up job costing in QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. We build a cost-code structure that fits how you actually run jobs, then keep it clean month to month so reports stay usable.

How does T5018 work?

If construction is your primary business activity, you must report payments to subcontractors annually on a T5018 information return. We track subcontractor payments through the year and prepare the return.

Do you handle HST on holdbacks?

Yes. Holdback timing affects when HST becomes collectible. We set your billing and filing process so it lines up correctly.

Can you take over from my current accountant?

Yes. We handle the transition, request prior-year files and CRA access, review what was filed, and flag anything that needs to be corrected before we take over your filings.

Do you provide audits?

No. The Accounting Doc does not provide audit or assurance engagements. We focus on accounting, bookkeeping, tax, compliance, business registration, reporting and advisory services within the scope of our professional services.
